A New Direction...
I am Matt Drake, and I am running for supervisor in District 6. As the city faces the most serious financial crisis in generations, we need leaders at City Hall who are focused less on ideology and more on finding commonsense, pragmatic solutions to our problems. I will focus on four issues as supervisor:
Economy
San Francisco's unemployment rate is presently around 10%. To get people working again, we need to help businesses grow and hire new employees. We should encourage small businesses to grow here in San Francisco.
Good Government
The headlines say that San Francisco is the worst-run big city in America. Is that true? Probably not. But we all can agree that we deserve more from City Hall. As Supervisor, I will focus on making our city government run more efficiently and effectively, while spending our tax dollars wisely.
Quality of Life
For too long, city government has ignored the quality of life problems in District 6, especially the Tenderloin and SOMA neighborhoods. We deserve the same quality of life as the rest of San Francisco. I will work with the police, the District Attorney, and the court system to ensure that our streets are clean and safe.
Smart Development
San Francisco desperately needs more housing and District 6 is one of the few areas of the city where we can build it. We must build more housing -- market rate, below market rate, and family housing -- to help address our housing shortage. We should build dense, infill housing on Rincon Hill, South Beach, Mission Bay and along Market Street. These neighborhoods are well served by public transit, so we can add more housing without adding more traffic.
